Power is one of those words that invokes thoughts of independence, strength, and influence. Power is also a word that is misunderstood, and can cause conflicts to develop. Organizations often experience power struggles amongst team members, many times with ever so subtle behaviors to get their way or point across.
Sometimes power does go to our head and we forget that if we are in the place of influence and even control, real power is not how we control or demand, but rather how we share it to lift others up.
It is easy to lose ourselves in the autonomy of our roles, which is why the better use of power is to help others who have less of it, creating more opportunity for all of us.
