Context is everything

“There are no universal solutions but there are contextual solutions.”

In reading this statement, it reminds me of how we frame our problem statements – In this context, how might we Increase Value, Improve Flow and Enhance Quality? The first part tells us that we need to define the context. The second part is what solution might be most appropriate and is the creative part of the process. Making context explicit and visible is important for building a sustainable change to the way we work.

Consider
How can you dig into and describe the context of your environment? Think about who, what, when, how and why. Give thought to the mindset of the people and how they approach work, the mechanics of how they perform their job and the performance measurements and outcomes that are actually delivered.
