There is this idea that productivity has no end. This idea manifests itself in the belief that being busy all the time is actually helpful. In one of our insights titled Don’t confuse effort with results we talk about the danger of being so busy that we lose sight of producing the right results.
There is a balance to be had and an understanding of terms. Busyness has it’s merit but urgency more so. More than any other characteristic, urgency is often lacking amongst leadership teams. Urgency doesn’t necessarily speak to speed, which is often how we interpret the word. It speaks more to the importance, seriousness, and gravity of a situation.
Urgency speaks to prioritization of those things that are most valuable followed by the behavior and mindset that operates that way.
