When is the last time you received exceptional service? What is the one thing that stood out most in that experience? It seems that customer experience is such an important topic simply because, for many, it’s a poor experience and doesn’t live up to expectations. When we think about work ethic what comes to mind? Work ethic is something that goes beyond just doing the requirements of the job. When we acknowledge someone’s strong work ethic, we’re really saying that they go beyond the job description. The person has more of an ownership mentality or, even more important, a deep-seeded appreciation for excellence in their work. They not only care about their reputation but also their employer’s and the customer’s experience. This is rare indeed.
A colleague of mine likes to say that people do the job they want. What he is saying is that people gravitate to what they really desire to do and for some, this often translates into doing more than their title suggests. It often involves being helpful and resourceful in other ways that leave a lasting impact on colleagues and customers.
“We are what we repeatedly do; Excellence therefore is not an act but a habit.” – Aristotle
