I’m certain you hear people in your professional circle voice their willingness to be challenged and receive criticism in the spirit of improvement. These days, words like ‘feedback’ have become a euphemism for the opportunity to criticize you in a somewhat safe environment.
I suppose there are many people who actually desire to improve and are willing to take the good with the bad if it means they will change their behavior for the betterment of themselves and others.
“Being a good leader requires remembering that you’re there for a reason, and the reason certainly isn’t to have your way. High-integrity leaders not only welcome questioning and criticism – they insist on it” – Travis Bradberry
Travis’ last statement “they insist on it” is perhaps the key to improvement and change. Seeing the challenging invitation to improve from others lowers the defensive walls we put up and accelerates positive outcomes for everyone.
How do you think about criticism? Is it feedback when you offer your opinion but criticism when others offer it to you?
