Corners matter

Corners matter because we have a tendency to be narrow minded when things are tough.

Once a year, I spend time going back through my notebooks where I’ve taken notes in business meetings. I do this as a practice to reflect on the past year and also to ensure that I haven’t missed anything important that required follow up.

 

Each year when I do this I come across a page that reminds me of some difficult circumstance that was occurring at the time and how I couldn’t see the resolution for it. People often say that you don’t know what’s around the corner. Corners matter because we have a tendency to be narrow minded when things are tough. We form a linear line in our minds and don’t always consider that certain turns in the road can make all the difference.

It works the same with the vision we have for our organizations. We see a straight path towards a result but we know from experience that it’s never a straight path.
