We’re all surrounded by opportunities. Sometimes it’s a question of whether we’re looking for them or not. There are opportunities we’re given and there are opportunities for us to take.
Regardless, there are costs associated with all opportunities. The costs are personal and corporate. They’re personal because we must weigh whether the opportunity before us is something we can fully commit to and do it well. They’re corporate because opportunities always include dependencies – like other people who are affected by how well (or not) and how seriously you take the opportunity.
Opportunity costs us something and impacts the team around us. Before you take on an opportunity, be mindful that others will depend on you and will be impacted by how you approach it.
