My Emergn journey: Jose’s experience as a Senior Solutions Architect
Meet Jose Alves, Senior Solution Architect at Emergn. With a background in software development and entrepreneurship, Jose has always been passionate about technology. His career path reflects a constant drive to learn, experiment with new ideas, and a desire to understand the bigger picture.
Tell us a bit about your backstory and how you got started
I’ve been interested in IT since I was young. My cousin studied computer science, so I was always around computers and quickly became fascinated by how they work. Right after college, I co-founded a software company for veterinary clinics, where I spent several years running every part of the business. After that, I worked as a developer, progressed into team leadership roles, and eventually found my way into solutions architecture.
What’s your role at Emergn and how long have you been with the company?
I joined Emergn three and a half years ago. As a Solutions Architect, I’ve worked with different client engagements and projects, while also contributing to initiatives within Emergn, such as supporting our AWS partnership.
Tell us about the work you are most proud of
One of the things I appreciate most about my role is the variety it offers. I get to work on architecture, requirements, and documentation, while also continuing to code and experiment. At the moment, we’re doing a lot with AI, which allows me to explore new technologies and think about how they can be applied to real-world situations. I feel fortunate to have a role that lets me work across so many areas that genuinely interest me.
How would you describe the culture at Emergn?
People here are what sets Emergn apart. Even though we often work across different locations, we build strong relationships and stay connected as a wider team. There’s a real culture of openness, curiosity, and sharing ideas. You’re expected to bring value, but you also gain a lot in return, with plenty of opportunities to step outside your comfort zone and grow your skills, both personally and professionally.
Outside of work, what’s something people should know about you?
My free time revolves around my two children and their sports activities. One plays futsal and the other is into basketball, so I spend a lot of weekends at games and practices. I also enjoy going to the gym, cycling, and spending time outdoors, which helps me unwind. I like tackling hands-on projects around the house too, as they provide a refreshing break from digital work.
What advice would you give your younger self or someone just starting out?
Take opportunities when they come, even if you’re not sure they’re perfect. Early in your career is the best time to experiment, learn, and see where things lead. Experience is the best teacher, and you never know where one opportunity might take you.
