In this short video of Steve Jobs, he sheds some light on a couple of areas that made Apple great. The first is that they focused on organizing around ideas and not hierarchies. They aligned leaders to the key ideas, products and services and ensured those leaders collaborated thoroughly and regularly.
Secondly, it was the ideas that were important. Not the power, position or ego. Debates and arguments are essential, but it was important to focus on the best ideas rather than on any single person getting their own way.
Finally, they re-configured when necessary. As the customer changed, the portfolio of ideas changed. As he said, Apple are the worlds largest startup because they were great at organising themselves.
How are you organised in your team, project, product or company?
